Ah... Don't worry, Li. They might be what people are calling 'haters'.

Li
Haters 懷恨在心的人。Yes, I've heard this word before. 動(dòng)詞 hate 的意思是"強(qiáng)烈憤恨，strongly dislike something"，對(duì)吧？

Neil
Yes. And the word 'hater' has been used to describe somebody who says or writes unpleasant things about others or criticises their achievements, especially on the internet.

Li
That's right. Hater 懷恨在心的人。通常用來(lái)指那些在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)上總是指責(zé)批評(píng)別人的、發(fā)表負(fù)面言論的人。And how is it different from the word 'troll'? 另一個(gè)詞兒 troll 是不是也是這個(gè)意思？

Well, language evolves and words can take on new meanings. A troll is an ugly creature from folk tales who often behaves in an antisocial way. But these days we call people who leave deliberately annoying or upsetting messages on the internet - while hiding their true identity - 'trolls'.

語(yǔ)言在發(fā)展。有些老詞有了新意。比如 troll 這個(gè)詞在最初的民間傳說(shuō)里面指一個(gè)丑陋的，經(jīng)常違背社會(huì)公德的人。不過(guò)，在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)統(tǒng)領(lǐng)的當(dāng)今，人們往往用這個(gè)詞來(lái)形容那些不透露真實(shí)身份在網(wǎng)上發(fā)表惡意中傷言論的人。稱這類(lèi)人為 trolls，類(lèi)似中文網(wǎng)絡(luò)用語(yǔ)里的"釣魚(yú)、小白、引戰(zhàn)"。

'Troll' and 'hater' are today's expressions in Authentic Real English. Let's hear some examples of how they're used.

Examples
Joan is fed up with a troll who posts comments on her cooking blog saying that she is fat and should only eat lettuce.

Haters will always have something negative to say. As I read in a comment on Pinterest: "Haters will see you walk on water and say it's because you can't swim."

You shouldn't bother about 'haters', Li. As singer Taylor Swift says in her song Shake It Off, "haters are gonna hate".
